Welcome to a Hoani Waititi Marae - our purpose is to provide a centre for Māori, language, culture and practice.
A place of learning that provides a Māori perspective on the world. Hoani Waititi Marae is named after Hoani Retimana Waititi, a descendant of Te Whānau-a-Apanui Iwi, originating from Kuaetangohia.
His legacy of service to the Māori people is honored through the activities and practices that are carried out on this Marae. Te Kōhanga reo is the language nest of the people, the establishment of the first Kura Kaupapa Māori in the country entrenches the womb to tomb concept and the journey of our mokopuna in a holistic māori world view.
The Marae has a number of Kapa Haka groups ranging from adults to tamariki. Te Whare Tū Tauā o Aotearoa is the art of war and māori weaponry was also established here.
The Marae hosts a range of cultural and social services that supports the local community and is a bastion for Māori culture nationally and internationally.
